                       GLOSSARY OF TERMS

                           July 1990

                            Preface

The Gas Scheduling and Control Committee of the Pacific Coast Gas Association
(PCGA) has developed this Glossary for use in connection with natural gas
transactions. The purpose of this Glossary is to present terminology which a
novice to the industry might find important and initially confusing, and to
establish consistent usage for such terms. Through this Glossary and other
measures, PCGA is striving to standardize and clarify the procedures of the
natural gas industry in the maturing open access environment.

As a result of deregulation, the number of individuals involved in gas
selling, buying, transportation and accounting has grown tremendously over
the past several years. In many instances, individuals are thrust into
positions with little or no exposure to basic gas industry terms. Our aim
here has been to include those terms which gas sellers, gas buyers,
transportation facilitators, and gas accountants might find most useful.
Due to the increasing importance of Canadian imports, a number of terms
indigenous to Canadian transactions have also been included. No legal status
should be given to any of the terms and definitions by reason of their
inclusion in this Glossary.

In preparing this Glossary every effort has been made to include terms
appropriate to the purpose stated above. Terms have been developed from a
variety of published glossaries and lists, and have been modified or
redefined, again to meet the stated purposes. A reference list of sources is
given in Appendix A. Several drafts of this Glossary have been distributed
to members of the committee for comment, and additional comments have been
either solicited or volunteered to the committee for inclusion. The
committee has appreciated the contributions made to this Glossary by many
knowledgeable persons.

The PCGA will revisit the Glossary and other provisions of the standards from
time to time to append the standards with currently needed change.
