See Casinghead Gas
Gas
Synonym:
Definition: Natural Gas, including casinghead gas, produced with
crude oil, gas from gas wells, gas from condensate wells
and synthetic natural gas.
Gas Balance Report
Synonym:
Definition: A monthly accounting report containing month-end meter
station allocations for each customer/shipper contract.
The report may be sorted by meter station or by
contract.
Gas Controller
Synonym: Dispatcher, System Controller, System Operator, Gas
Control Operator
Definition: Person or persons assigned the task of monitoring and
controlling daily gas system operations and ensuring
safety of a pipeline or distribution system.
Gas Day
Synonym:
Definition: A period of twenty-four (24) consecutive hours
commencing at a specified hour on a given calendar day
and ending at the same specified hour on the next
succeeding calendar day. The calendar date for a gas
day is typically the date when the gas day begins.
Gas, Dry
Synonym: Lean Gas
Definition: (1) Gas whose water content has been reduced by a
dehydration process. (2) Gas containing little or no
hydrocarbons commercially recoverable as liquid product.
Natural Gas containing insufficient quantities of
hydrocarbons heavier than methane to allow their
commercial extraction or to require their removal in
order to render the gas suitable for fuel use.
Gas Field
Synonym:
Definition: A district or area from which natural gas is produced.
GAS*FLOW
Synonym:
Definition: A set of standard record formats supporting the
electronic data interchange of the documents described
in the Nominations/Allocations Subcommittee and the
Volume Imbalance Subcommittee reports of INGA/COPAS.
Gas Gain
Synonym:
Definition: That volume of gas gain within a system as a result of
measurement error.
Gas Imbalance
See Imbalance, Gas
Gas Inventory Charge
Synonym: GIC, Gas Supply Charge, GSC
Definition: A charge by a pipeline assessed for standing ready to
serve sales customers. The GIC is designed to prevent
the incurrence of take-or-pay liability by charging the
customer for all the costs associated with maintaining a
gas supply. The GIC may be based on customer purchase
deficiencies or on a current charge system.Gas Loss
Synonym: Unaccounted for
Definition: That volume of gas determined by the transmission
company or LDC to be the total volume of gas lost as a
result of leak, blowdown, rupture or measurement error.
Gas, Natural
Synonym:
Definition: A naturally occurring mixture of hydrocarbon and
nonhydrocarbon gases found in porous geologic formations
beneath the earth's surface, often in association with
petroleum. The principal constituent is methane.
Gas Plant
Synonym:
Definition: Any plant which performs one of the following functions:
removing liquefiable hydrocarbons from wet gas or
casinghead gas (gas processing); removing undesirable
gaseous and particulate elements from natural gas (gas
treatment or purification); removing water or moisture
from the gas stream (dehydration).
Gas, Sour (see Sour Gas)
Synonym:
Definition: Natural gas that contains sulphur, sulphur components
and/or carbon dioxide in quantities that may require
removal for effective use. Gas found in its natural
state, containing such amount of compounds of sulfur
and/or carbon dioxide as to make it impractical to use
without purifying, because of its corrosive effect on
piping and equipment and its danger to human life.
Gas, Sweet
Synonym:
Definition: Natural Gas that contains no sulphur or sulphur
components, or in such small quantities that no
processing is necessary for their removal in order that
the gas may be used directly as a non-corrosive domestic
heating fuel.
Gas Well Gas
Synonym:
Definition: Gas that is produced from a well that does not also
produce oil.
Gas, Wet
Synonym: Rich Gas
Definition: Unprocessed or partially processed natural gas
containing considerable hydrocarbons and/or water.
Natural gas containing hydrocarbons heavier than methane
in such quantities that they may be extracted
commercially, or that they may require removal to
render the residue gas suitable for fuel use or pipeline
transit.
Gasoline Plant
See Extraction Plant
Gas Research Institute
Synonym: GRI
Definition: An organization sponsored by a number of U.S. companies
to investigate new sources of supplies and new uses of
natural gas.
Gas Transported for Others
Synonym:
Definition: The volume of gas, owned by another company, received
into and transported through any part of the
transmission system under a transportation agreement.
Gate Station
See City-Gate
Gatherer
Synonym:
Definition: A legal entity which has responsibility for the
collection of gas from the wellhead, and the delivery of
that gas to either a gas plant or a pipeline.
Gathering Agreement
Synonym:
Definition: Agreement between a producer/pipeline and a gathering
system operator specifying the terms and conditions for
entry of the producer's gas into the gathering system
and redelivery to a plant or pipeline.
Gathering System
Synonym:
Definition: The gathering pipelines plus any pumps, compressors,
tanks or additional equipment used to move oil or gas
from the wellhead to the main pipeline for delivery to
a processing facility, other transporter or consumer.
